Overdrive Features

Overdrive offers some great features that can enhance your digital experience.

Wish List -- When you're browsing and come across something you'd like to get later, add it to your wish list -- just click on the link next to the title. Now you can browse when you have the time and get titles from your wish list when you're in a hurry!

Rate the Title -- Did you really love that ebook? Rate it! Did you hate the reader on that audiobook? Rate it! There are rating stars next to each Overdrive title. Give your own thumbs up or thumbs down. Previous ratings always show, so you can see how others liked a title.

Recommend Titles -- You can also search 'Additional Titles' in our Overdrive catalog for books that we don't have. Then with a simple click you can recommend that we purchase it and it to the collection. You can also get automatically added to the hold list if we do get it!

Share It -- Share your favorite titles with others via email, Facebook or Twitter. Links are located in the title's full record.

Try It Out -- Of course, you can always read, listen to, or watch excerpts for Overdrive titles. No more wondering if this title is right for you!

Buy It -- If you don't want to wait for a checked out book to be available, you have the option to buy the book instantly. If you decide to buy the book, going to a bookseller through our site means that a portion of the sale goes back to the library for the express purpose of buying more eBooks. It's a win/win!

How to renew a digital title

  1. Log into your Account on your library's digital collection website.
  2. On your library Bookshelf, select the Renew icon next to the title you'd like to renew.
Note: This option does not appear until three days before the title is supposed to expire.
  3. If there are no existing holds on a title, the Renew icon will be green, like in the example below. In this case, you can use the renew feature to hold a copy of the title for you, so that you can borrow it again immediately once your first checkout expires.

If there are existing holds on a title, the Renew icon will be grayed out, like in the example below. In this case, you can still use the renew feature to reserve a spot on the title's holds list so that you can borrow it again as soon as it's available.

  4. Enter and confirm your email address in the renewal form, then select the Renew button. If you would like the renewed title to be automatically added to your library Bookshelf as soon as it's available (instead of being held for you on your Holds page), make sure that "Automatically borrow this title at the time of renewal" is selected.

Once you renew a title, its Renew icon on your library Bookshelf will have a checkmark next to it.

You can also track which titles you've scheduled to renew from your Holds page.

As soon as your first checkout expires and the title is available for you again, you'll receive an email with instructions on how to access the title. You'll either be instructed to find the renewed title on your Bookshelf (if you had the title automatically borrowed for you at the time of renewal) or borrow the title from your Holds page.

Please note that renewing a title does not mean that it is automatically re-downloaded to your computer or device. If you would like to re-download your renewed title, you will have to return to your library Bookshelf and select a Download format.
