Can I donate seeds?
This program runs solely on donations from seed companies and members of our community-- including you!
If you would like to donate, pleaser each out to the seed library liaison at any one of our participating locations to offer donations or email Allison G. at the Main Library.
Note: Seed donation does NOT guarantee the seeds will be available to the public. All seeds must be vetted to ensure the species is not toxic, invasive, or illegal.
No!
While we encourage seed-saving and seed sharing when utilizing our Seed Libraries, it is not a requirement to participate.
Do I need to be a library card or be a resident of East Baton Rouge Parish to use the Seed Library?
No and no!
An East Baton Rouge Parish Library card grants you access to a number of services, having one is not required to participate in the Seed Library program. The program is open to any and everyone who comes through our doors, no matter their card-holding status or place of residence.
What kinds of seeds do you stock?
We prioritize herbs and vegetables that are either native to Louisiana or thrive particularly well in our area. However, as our stock relies on donations, we have a variety of seeds, including ornamental plants and flowers.
Each branch's collection of seeds is going to be different depending on what donations they have received and what patrons have taken. Visit each location for a complete and up-to-date list of currently available seeds.
Note: One of the goals of our Seed Library program is to foster sustainability when it comes to gardening. Thus, we will never supply you with invasive species that will harm or takeover your garden.
My home library is not participating in the Seed Library program. Why not? Will they be participating in the future?
The Seed Library program is currently in it's pilot phase. This means that we are testing it out at a few locations and evaluating the results before instituting it at all of our locations. If you think your library would benefit from participating, please reach out to your library staff and let them know. We would love to have the program at all 15 of our library locations in the future, so make sure you tell us what you want!
Please email us with any questions you may have!
