Overdue items accrue fines with every checkout or renewal. If you renew an item that is already overdue, you will have fines for the overdue time. If you return the renewed item late, you will accrue more fines for the 2nd overdue period. Please note: Fines accrue on each item you have checked out.
We encourage you to ask staff to check your account or that you access your account online to determine if you have overdue fines or other fees.
Overdue fines are assessed as follows:
Items that are returned after their due date but before the 10th overdue day will accrue fines, but we will not send you a notice that you have fines on your account. If an item you have checked out is more than 10 days overdue, you will receive a notice form us letting you know that you have fines on your account.
On the 60th overdue day, we will send you a bill notice for your item(s), requesting payment for the full cost of the item(s) plus a $3.00 processing fee for each overdue item.
On or near the 70th overdue day, the Parish Attorney's Office will send you a Collection Notice if your account totals $25 or more. The Parish Attorney's Office will also send a letter requesting payment within 5 days.
Payments on your account can be made at any time at any branch. If charges reach $25.00 at any time, your record is set to "Delinquent" until the balance is below $25.00. You cannot check out library materials until you pay your account balance down to below $25.
All charges on a your record are due by your library card's expiration date. Your account must be cleared before your card is updated.
Lost or Damaged Items
Lost or damaged items may be replaced with an exact copy of the item in lieu of payment for the item. Always speak to a librarian in the system before attempting to replace an item.
When items are damaged, but are still in condition to continue to circulate, charges are assessed as follows:
If the damage to an item requires that the item must be removed from the collection, the entire cost of the item will be charged to your account. For other charges, contact the Circulation Division at the Main Library.
