The resources in this guide are intended to help anyone in the Baton Rouge area currently experiencing homelessness.

One Stop Homeless Services Center

Capitol Area Alliance for the Homeless members provide Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing, and Permanent Supportive Housing for chronically homeless individuals, persons with a range of disabilities, and families experiencing homelessness for the first time.  Additional services include outreach to the homeless, behavioral health referrals, substance abuse treatment, veteran’s services, life skills training, job training/placement, youth shelters, and literacy/GED classes.

Louisiana BOSCOC

The Louisiana Balance of State Continuum of Care (LA BOSCOC) is a coalition of housing & service providers dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness in Louisiana. Coalition members provide emergency, short-term, and long-term housing for people experiencing homelessness.

Christian Outreach Center of Baton Rouge

The Christian Outreach Center offers four categories of assistance: essential services (food bags, hygiene kits, clothing, transportation, etc.); employment services (job readiness classes, employee case management); financial education classes; and a prison re-entry program (transitional housing, transitional employment, financial education, life skills training, etc.).

Empower 225

 

Street Outreach Program (SOP) at Empower 225

SOP provides street-based services to homeless and at-risk youth ages 12-21 in the Greater Baton Rouge Area. The SOP team meets youth on the street and ensures they have the skills and resources too succeed. SOP is a gateway for these youth to connect with other supportive service programs in Empower 225.

Empower 225 offers Educational Support, Lifeskills Training, Career Preparedness, Housing, and Mentorship.

Lifeline & Emergency Broadband

Lifeline is a federal benefit that lowers the monthly cost of phone or internet service.

Mayor's Initiative: Internet & Phone

In partnership with the Mayor’s Office and the Safe, Hopeful, Healthy initiative, Phoenix Marketing is providing qualifying households the opportunity to either receive a free tablet or subsidized internet service for $8.90 a month. This opportunity is federally funded by the Federal Communications Commission and is part of their Emergency BroadBand (EBB) initiative. Phoenix Marketing in partnership with EarthLink is providing this opportunity to break the digital divide in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Catholic Charities Families First Program

Catholic Charities Families First Housing Program is an 18-month transitional housing program for parents who desire a brighter future for themselves and their children.

Families have access to:

  • Two or three bedroom furnished apartments at below-market rates
  • Case management
  • Education and employment resources, vocational training, and classes in financial management, home buying, and life skills.
  • Referrals to community resources as needed

To qualify, applicants must be:

  • At least 21 years old
  • Employed at least 90 days at their current job
  • Living with their minor child or children. (17 or younger)
  • Committed to participate in case management
