Timeline

  • Design Process began in 2008
  • Contract allows a total of 720 days for construction

Building Facts & Figures

  • 126,000 square feet total, located behind current Main Library
  • Situated over old "Downtown' or Municipal Airport runway
  • Will house books, AV materials, and periodicals for all ages
  • Dedicated activity spaces for children, teens, and adults
  • Approximately 120 public computers, laptops and online public library catalogs, and Overdrive audio download stations

Funding

  • Land in Indepedence Park shared with BREC
  • Contract records the cost of Construction as $35,410,074
  • The City-Parish is the owner; the Library is the user Department of Public Works staff will work with Architect and the General Contractor to oversee the project
  • Funds for this Pay-As-You-Go project were amassed by the East Baton Rouge Parish Library over time, as part of its 10-year Dedicated Property Tax
