The Louisiana State Poetry Society is a group of poets who meet to critique and study. Visitors are welcome. Workshops held every meeting on different ways to write poetry and give critiques and there is a laureate contest every two years. Fees: $25/year, state; $5/year, local. Forward Arts is a "multi-generational collective of youth, artists and educators who provide workshops, performance spaces and professional development for young people and adults. Emphasis is on poetry. Through critical engagement and creative practice FA fosters personal and social transformation."
Also called Lagniappe, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) classes are open to anyone over the age of 50. OLLI offers various literary courses, often taught by LSU professors and instructors.
