LSU Creative Writing Program

The LSU Creative Writing program for undergraduates offers courses in poetry, fiction, drama, and screenwriting to undergraduates for an MA degree in Creative Writing. The Southeastern Louisiana Writing Project is "a National Writing project site and is part of a national network of outstanding teachers."

Louisiana State Poetry Society - Baton Rouge Founders' Chapter

The Louisiana State Poetry Society is a group of poets who meet to critique and study. Visitors are welcome. Workshops held every meeting on different ways to write poetry and give critiques and there is a laureate contest every two years. Fees: $25/year, state; $5/year, local. Fees are not required to attend meetings. Meetings are held on the fourth Saturday, 2-4 p.m. at the Main Library. Contact Charles Egedy at (225) 926-5362 for more information.

Forward Arts

Forward Arts is a "multi-generational collective of youth, artists and educators who provide workshops, performance spaces and professional development for young people and adults. Emphasis is on poetry. Through critical engagement and creative practice FA fosters personal and social transformation." 

OLLI

Also called Lagniappe, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) classes are open to anyone over the age of 50. OLLI offers various literary courses, often taught by LSU professors and instructors.
