Arts & Culture: South Louisiana Museums

Honors the Acadians -- French Canadians who were exiled by the British from Acadie -- who settled the wetlands and prairies of South Louisiana.

Located on the Tchefuncte River near its entrance into Lake Ponchatrain, this museum preserves and interprets the rich history of Lake Ponchatrain and Louisiana's maritime legacy.

During Spanish rule, colonists from the Canary Islands came to Louisiana and settled the area around New Orleans (now St. Bernard Parish). The Los Islenos Museum preserves the heritage of this important group of settlers.

Also known as the Wedell-Williams Memorial Aviation Museum, this museum focuses on the legacy of Louisiana aviation pioneers Jimmie Wedell and Harry Williams.
