Louisiana is known as the birthplace of jazz, but it's also a state with a strong blues tradition, and Baton Rouge, the state capital, has long been regarded as the incubator of Louisiana's blues culture.
Although he was born in Mississippi, all of Smoky Babe's recordings were made in 1959-1961 in Scotlandville, La. except for his last session. He supposedly died in 1975 in Scotlandville, but his death is unconfirmed.
