Garden Discoveries with the BR Botanic Garden Foundation

EBRPL has partnered with the Baton Rouge Botanic Garden Foundation to bring you Garden Discoveries, a monthly series of FREE presentations and tours of the Independence Park Botanic Gardens occurring on the 2nd Saturday of each month.

  • Enjoying Butterflies of Baton Rouge, Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 10 a.m. -- Register HERE
    • Led by Dennis Demcheck, Master Naturalist and avid nature photographer. We will celebrate many common butterflies of Baton Rouge and Mr. Demcheck will give tips on how to identify these airborne beauties.  His highly visual presentation will feature photographs of local butterflies and plants that attract and keep them. All attendees will go home with lists of the most common butterflies in your garden, preferred host plants for caterpillars, and nectar-rich plants for butterfly adults. If the weather permits, we will take a short walk outside to the Pollinator Garden in the Baton Rouge Botanical Gardens located in BREC Independence Park, adjacent to the Library.

Garden Discoveries: Save the Date

    • Led by Kevin Langley, President, Capital Area Beekeepers Association; Vice President, Louisiana Beekeepers Association. More than ever before, we need to recognize the importance of bees to nature and to our lives. And we need to turn our awareness into action to ensure that bees and other pollinators don't just survive but thrive. Maintaining our native flora also depends on healthy pollinator populations. One of the most important ways you can help pollinators is by provisioning your yard with plants that provide pollen and nectar. Our speaker will show you how. Following the presentation, and weather permitting, we will take a short walk outside to the adjacent Baton Rouge Botanical Gardens located in BREC Independence Park.
