This 2015 Newbery Honor Book is written from the perspective a young child who contracts an illness and has to learn how to live life differently. Although it is written for middle grade students, the story is heartfelt, funny and a candid look at those who are differently-abled. I learned a lot from this book and when I wanted to let my emotions get the best of me, the main character Cece, encourages me to see the silver linings. She talks about the social and physical aspects of what it's like being deaf, and I was surprised that I learned so many new things. It is such a beautiful story that adults, teens and tweens will fall in love with. I highly recommend it. The library has an e-book version of this graphic novel available on Overdrive. An excerpt of it is included in The Best American Comics 2016 collection.
